Dr. Silvia Penuela
Dr. Penuela is originally from Bogota, Colombia, where she did her B.Sc. in Microbiology at the University of Los Andes. She obtained her Ph.D. in Plant Pathology at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities in the United States and did her first postdoc at the USRA-ARS laboratories in St. Paul, Minnesota. She moved to Canada and did a second postdoc at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University. In July 2014, she started a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology. Her research program has continued the seminal work done in pannexin channels in both normal development as well as malignant transformation in different cancers.
