Celebrating a Day of Discovery and Community

group 2025

On Friday April 11, 2025, our department came alive with excitement, collaboration, and an unmistakable buzz of research and scholarly/ creative achievements during our annual Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Research Day.

We began by honoring the traditional custodians of the land on which we gather - a grounding land acknowledgement that reminded us of our responsibilities to respect, honour, and learn from indigenous histories and cultures.  This moment set a reflective tone for the day, rooting our scientific pursuits in a deeper awareness of place and legacy.

The sheer scale of scholarly endeavor was astounding: 130 presentations showcased the incredible diversity and ingenuity flourishing within our department.  These presentations spanned 12 distinct areas of research excellence – rooted in cutting-edge biomedical advances and environmental studies/ One Health to innovative approaches in computational (patho)biology.  Each topic represented not only a field of inquiry but also a commitment to pushing the boundaries of knowledge and making a meaningful impact on our world.

As conversations flowed from poster to presentation and ideas intermixed with learning, a powerful collective energy emerged.  This buzz of science not only highlighted individual accomplishments but also forged connections across disciplines, inspiring collaborations and igniting new questions that will fuel future research.

For some, it was a moment of first-time brilliance - a leap into the unknown as they presented their research for the very first time to an enthusiastic audience.  For others, it was an opportunity to return to familiar territory, a stage where years of dedication and expertise were showcased with ease and confidence.  This blend of fresh ambition and seasoned insight created an environment vital to any thriving scholarly community.

Stay inspired, stay curious, and join us as we continue to explore, discover, and shape the future together.
