GISAID Recognition for Dr. Poon and Members of his Bioinformatics Lab
Congratulations to Dr. Art Poon and members of his bioinformatics lab, who have developed a new "real time" analysis and visualization system for SARS-CoV-2 genomes. This month, their web application CoVizu was officially recognized by the GISAID Initiative.
The GISAID Initiative promotes the rapid sharing of data from all influenza viruses and the coronavirus causing COVID-19. This includes genetic sequence and related clinical and epidemiological data associated with human viruses, and geographical as well as species-specific data associated with avian and other animal viruses, to help researchers understand how viruses evolve and spread during epidemics and pandemics.
CoVizu is one of only 13 apps in the world that has received this recognition and the only one from a Canadian institution.
