Researchers date ‘hibernating' HIV strains
Our colleague, Dr. Art Poon, was recently interviewed by CTV News London to showcase his work in collaboration with the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS, the University of British Columbia, and Simon Fraser University. Dr. Poon is the co-senior author of the study, which appeared in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, that presents a new phylogenetic method for reconstructing the integration dates of latent HIV-1 strains within patients. This research provides important insights into the composition and dynamics of the latent HIV reservoir, which is the primary target for the development of an effective cure.
