Advances in the Practice of Cytopathology
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine had a very successful CME day in Pathology on May 2, 2015. This meeting was organized by the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, London Health Sciences Centre and the Schulich School of Medicine, in partnership with Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto. We had a total of 97 attendees, 28 MDs (pathologists and residents) and 69 cytotechnologists. Our guest speaker Dr. Jeffery Krane, Associate Professor of Pathology, Harvard Medical School, Boston, as part of the ‘Bedard Lectureship’, spoke on the challenges with indeterminate thyroid aspirates. Other presentations covered a wide variety of relevant and challenging topics, including; recent changes in cervical cancer screening in Canada, crisis in cytotechnology in Ontario, an update on cytology laboratory practices in Ontario, cytology quality improvement initiates and a cytology slide seminar on diagnostic challenges.
