The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Western Ontario offers a professional course- and practicum-based Master of Clinical Science (MClSc) program, a one-year graduate diploma (GDip), and research-based MSc and PhD programs.
MClSc Pathologists' Assistant Graduate Program
Our MClSc program was the first of its kind accredited in Canada. Pathologists' Assistants (PAs) are highly trained health professionals who work under the supervision of a medically qualified Pathologist, and provide a broad range of services in Anatomical Pathology.

Research-based Graduate Diploma (GDip)
The aim of the one-year Graduate Diploma program is to bridge undergraduate and advanced graduate training, develop and expand the student’s research skills, and facilitate developing tomorrow’s scientists who will make significant contributions in the advancement towards the understanding of disease. Students in the Graduate Diploma program carry out mentored, intensive basic science research in the laboratory of a graduate faculty member.

Research-based MSc and PhD Programs
The research-based graduate programs in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine offer research training on human health and disease at the molecular, cellular, tissue, whole organism, and clinical levels. As part of the program, students carry out supervised research in various thematic areas including One Health, cancer, diabetes, transplantation, stem cell biology, neurodegenerative diseases, cardiovascular disease, and bioinformatics/data science.
