History
April 2001 marked the establishment of the Ivey Eye Institute, which encompasses the previous services of three eye care centres: the Ivey Institute of Ophthalmology, the University Campus Eye Clinic of the London Health Sciences Centre and the St. Joseph's Hospital Eye Clinic.
A Proud History of Care
The distinguished history of service of these three eye care centres ensures that, in the future, we will continue to be a leader in providing state-of-the-art medical and surgical eye care for people of all ages.
The Institute is recognized as one of the premier Canadian centres for cataract removal and intra-ocular lens implantation and has attracted top eye specialists in other fields.
Many treatments for eye problems have been pioneered in Canada. Ophthalmology has been practiced and taught in London for over a century, producing graduates for communities across the continent.
The Ivey Eye Institute was formerly located at Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario. By December 21, 2009, it was fully consolidated on the first floor of St. Joseph's Hospital as part of Milestone 2, Phase 2 of the hospital restructuring project.
The new 54,000 sq. ft of space for Ivey is bright and modern and offers many improvements. The space is now divided into sub-specialties such as an area for retina, pediatric, general/ocular plastics; cornea/anterior segment; optometry low vision, glaucoma; and ophthalmic diagnostics. For patients of the Ivey Eye Institute, this meant, and continues to mean, centralized way finding and improved continuity of care.
