Chairs Message
Welcome to the Department of Medical Imaging at Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry.
The needs of our patients, of the Health Care System, of our faculty and Learners are constantly changing. The vision for the Medical Imaging Department is to be nimble and adaptable to these needs by becoming internationally recognized for excellence and innovations in Imaging, Intervention and Education that result in improved patient care and outcomes. Our mission is to improve patient care through partnerships in research, clinical and education innovations.
As an Academic Department of Medical Imaging in London, we are optimally positioned to address unmet patient needs through: 1) research innovation, 2) translation of validated research protocols into routine clinical care, 3) knowledge translation, of validated innovations to colleagues across our LHIN, across the Province, across Canada and beyond and 4) to measure the outcomes of these innovations on population health.
Our goal is to form highly functioning academic multidisciplinary teams to build strong and mutually beneficial partnerships with imaging scientists, medical imagers, clinicians, and industry colleagues across London, within our LHIN and beyond. For us to be successful, we must be strategically aligned with the direction of the University, Hospital and Ministry of Health.
We have developed eight sub specialty divisions within the Department of Medical Imaging, each with established Division Heads. These include Body, Breast, Cardiothoracic, Neurological, Nuclear Medicine, Paediatrics, Vascular Intervention and Musculoskeletal Imaging. These clinical and academic specializations will lead to greater patient experiences and outcomes.
We are working closely with industry partners to build National Centres of Excellence in advanced diagnostic imaging and therapeutics in London. New partnerships have led to the planned installation of state-of-the-art imaging and interventional equipment with paired 3.0T/1.5T MRIs (six clinical MRIs), paired bi-plane and single plane angiography suites (six clinical units), and six clinical CTs (five wide volume units and one dedicated interventional CT) in London hospitals.
These industry partnerships also include the creation of support funds for research, advanced clinical applications, teaching and outcomes analysis, and the installation of a dedicated research wide volume CT and research single plane angiography suite at Robarts Research Institute. Research will focus on improving both the patient experience and the outcomes in important cardiovascular and neurological diseases. We aim to become leaders in state-of-the-art imaging and intervention through the centres of excellence.
We are on a journey of academic transformation join us on this journey!
