MD+ is an MD program learning track that lets you personalize and diversify your medical school degree. MD+ lets you broaden your perspective by taking a leave of absence from the MD program to pursue a graduate degree on campus or abroad.
How MD+ works
Forge your own path by researching and identifying a graduate program that you feel will diversify and enhance your learning, professional skills, and career advancement.
- Attend the MD+ Program Information Session in late September 2023.
- Explore thesis or course-based opportunities in the history of medicine, public health, global health management, business or another field of interest.
- Research and identify a graduate program at Western, in Canada, or abroad that you would like to complete.
- Contact the MD+ Program Chair to discuss your interest and present your graduate program proposal to determine feasibility.

Who can participate in MD+?
Any Schulich MD student (London or Windsor) who has completed year 1 or year 2 of their MD program studies and is in academic good standing.
Program length
- Program length may vary depending on the MD+ graduate program students choose to pursue
- Consult with the MD+ Program Chair regarding your proposed graduate program of interest
Financial support
As an MD+ student, you will be eligible for the MD+ Award, a one-time award of $10,000 to support the cost of graduate programming on campus or abroad.
Depending on the graduate program you plan to pursue, you may be eligible for internal institutional funding and/or apply for external funding.

MD+ timing and deadlines:
- Late September – attend the MD+ program information session.
- September-December - arrange meeting with MD+ program Chair to discuss the program you wish to pursue.
- First week of December - Applications to the MD+ Program are due.
- First week of January - Offer decisions will be made by the MD+ Program Committee.
