The surgeons at HULC provide complex surgical care to patients from the London area and from across Canada. In addition, as faculty members at Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University, they teach medical students, surgical residents and post-residency Clinical Fellows from all over the world. The HULC team also includes scientists who conduct research in orthopedic tissue biomechanics and prosthetic implants, wound healing, cancer, infection, Dupuytren's contracture and reconstructive (micro) surgery. HULC also has an active clinical research program looking into the outcomes of our surgical procedures in an attempt at improving our treatment protocols.
Although the Ontario health care system generally provides prompt and modern medical services, there is a serious shortage of funding for research and education. Therefore, HULC has established a fund to receive donations for assistance with our research programs. Regular contributions to this fund are made by our staff and in the past many of our patients have generously supported this fund.
Currently, one of the main priorities is to endow the Roth | McFarlane Clinical Excellence Fund. This Fund honours the visionary clinical and research leadership of the late Drs. James Roth (1951-2013) and Robert McFarlane (1927-2006) in establishing St. Joseph’s specialized Hand & Upper Limb Program. It provides funding for projects in research, education or the provision of specialized medical equipment that advances research knowledge and/or clinical practice. Support for this cause with a gift of any amount would be greatly appreciated by all of us here at HULC.
Donations can be made through the secure servers at Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University. If you wish to donate on-line visit The Roth | McFarlane Hand & Upper Limb Centre donation web page.
