Dr. Yousif Atwan is originally from Windsor, ON and obtained his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry and Biotechnology from the University of Windsor. He subsequently completed his M.D. and post-graduate training at Western University. During his Orthopaedic Surgery residency training, he obtained a Master’s Degree (MSc) based in Shoulder Arthroplasty Biomechanics. Upon completion of residency training, he completed a one-year fellowship at the Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN) specializing in shoulder and elbow surgery. Finally, he completed another one-year fellowship at Wrightington Hospital in the United Kingdom, also specializing in shoulder and elbow surgery.
Dr. Atwan has published several scientific articles and book chapters in the field and is currently active in clinical and biomechanical research. He has received a number of awards that include the Bernard F. Morrey and Neviaser Awards by the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) and the Harry S. Morton Travelling Fellowship in Surgery Award by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Additionally, he is on the executive board for the Canadian Shoulder & Elbow Society (CSES).
Dr. Atwan’s elective practice encompasses all aspects of shoulder and elbow care that includes primary & revision shoulder replacement, arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, arthroscopic and open stabilization, primary and revision elbow replacement, and elbow arthroscopy. Dr. Atwan’s trauma practice includes shoulder, elbow, and forearm injuries.
