Geriatric Medicine Residency
Dynamic faculty committed to teaching. Both core and elective rotations occur in a variety of settings from rural to inpatient. Strong links with subspecialties offering electives in Behavioural Neurology, Movement Disorders, and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Exciting opportunity for a joint fellowship in Clinical Pharmacology. Research skills are fostered with significant opportunities to participate in research at varied levels and many areas of interest.
Program Resources: Division of Geriatric Medicine at Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University has been very supportive of residents; supporting international travel to meetings, leadership courses, and support and mentoring in establishing careers. Our excellent Evaluation and Research group is available to assist with research projects.

Dr. Shany Gertzbein, PGY5
Shany started her Geriatric Medicine Residency with Western in the beginning of 2021. She completed her medical degree at the University of Toronto and her residency in Internal Medicine at Queen’s University. She is passionate about care of the elderly and aims to work with patients and their families to promote aging with dignity. Outside of work she enjoys the outdoors, trying new recipes, and spending time with her two daughters. Watch video
Dr. Vithusha Ganesh, PGY4
Vithusha completed her medical degree at Queen's University and her residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Alberta. Now at Western, she looks forward to learning more about how to best support older adults as they age. Outside of work, she enjoys painting and spoiling her dog, and looks forward to exploring the "Forest City".
Dr. Lauren Winquist, PGY5
Lauren is from London, Ontario and obtained her Bachelor of Medical Sciences at Western University. She completed her medical degree at Queen’s University and returned to London to pursue her residency in Internal Medicine at Western University. Lauren is thrilled to be continuing her training in Geriatric Medicine in her hometown, where she first fostered her passion for the health and wellbeing of older adults. Outside of work, Lauren enjoys playing soccer, running, birdwatching, and exploring the outdoors with her husband.
