Dr. Brackstone attended Western University, where she received an Honours Bachelor of Science in Physiology in 1992, and a Master’s degree in Neurosciences in 1994. She attended Medical School at UWO and graduated in 1999 (Gold Medallist). She received her training in General Surgery at Western Ontario and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2004. Her fellowship in Breast Surgical Oncology was completed at the University of Toronto in 2005 under Dr. Claire Holloway and Dr. David McCready at Sunnybrook and Princess Margaret Hospitals. She joined the Divisions of General Surgery and Surgical Oncology in London, Ontario in August 2005. She completed a Master’s Degree in Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics from Western University in 2008 followed by a PhD in Pathology (Clinical Trials) from Western University from 2009-2014.
Dr. Brackstone created and became founding Medical Director for London’s multidisciplinary Breast Care Clinic from 2010 to present. In 2013, she also created the London Tumour Biobank as a biospecimen and patient data repository for translational research in collaboration with scientists across the region. She has designed and conducted a number of clinical trials and has developed the Breast Clinical Research Unit for this purpose. She sits on the breast cancer executive for the National Cancer Institute of Canada and Cancer Care Ontario and holds many national level grants. Her research interests include health outcomes, translational breast cancer research, neoadjuvant window of opportunity trials and locally advanced breast cancer.
