I was born in Sudbury Ontario and after high school received a Bsc from Western University. Following completion of my undergraduate degree in Science I entered medical school and graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the Western University with honors in 1987. I than completed a rotating internship at Victoria Hospital in London Ontario in 1989. I than went on to complete a General Surgery residency at the Western University. Following residency training between 1993-1995 I did a fellowship in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester Mn USA. Since 1995 I have been a faculty member in the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, Western University. Currently I hold the rank of Associate Professor of Surgery, Western University. I have served as the Program Director in the division of General Surgery between 1997-2005, and served as Chairman and Chief of the division of General Surgery from 2005- 2012. I also have held the position as the acting Chief of Surgery at University hospital Dec 2008 - Aug 2009. Currently I hold the position of vice chairman of the Royal College of Surgeons General Surgery examination board. My research interests include minimally invasive surgical technologies as they relate to HPB surgery and surgical robotics.
