Dr. Mithu Sen has been appointed as Assistant Dean, Faculty Equity and Wellness

Dr. Mithu Sen has been appointed as Assistant Dean, Faculty Equity and Wellness, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University effective from March 1, 2014 to February 28, 2017.
Dr. Sen graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1991 from Queen's University. She completed her MD at the University of Calgary in 1995 and completed her residency training in Internal Medicine in Calgary and her specialty training in Respirology, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine at Western University.
In 2003, she joined the Divisions of Respirology and Critical Care Medicine, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University as an Assistant Professor. Dr. Sen brings her extensive leadership experience and collaborative work with diverse teams, both from leadership and administrative roles at London Health Sciences Center (LHSC) and in medical education at the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry.
Her previous administrative experience includes Undergraduate and Postgraduate Education Program Director, Critical Medicine (2010-present), Program Director, Adult Critical Care (2010-present), and Director of Education, Critical Care Trauma Centre (2004-2010).
Since 2008 she has been instrumental in developing health policy locally and nationally. This, in combination with her expertise as an educator, is sought after in national projects and policies, many of which have set precedent in our Canadian Health Care System, including the Pan Canadian Consensus on Resident Duty Hours, published in 2013, where she was recruited to serve on the Expert Working Group (EWG) in Medical Education, both as a core member and a contributing author.
Dr. Sen was recruited for The CanMEDS 2015 in The Scholar- Life Long Learner EWG both as a core member and contributing author. Physician health and Patient Safety/Quality Improvement is an important component of this new CanMEDS 2015 framework. She was involved in the first Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada ASPIRE (Advancing Patient Safety in Residency Education) and earned certification as a trainer for this CanMEDS curriculum for our School.
Dr. Sen was the recipient of the Dean's Award of Excellence for Postgraduate Education, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry (2013), the Junior Teaching Award of Excellence, Department of Medicine, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry (2008) and The Cameron Gray Award, Ontario Thoracic Society (2000).
