Dr. Kenneth Wright on Mayor's Honouree List
Thursday, January 2, 2014
Dr. Kenneth Wright has been named to the 2014 Mayor's New Year's Honour List for his humanitarian work. The Schulich Dentistry professor founded the very successful Dental Outreach Community Services (DOCS), which is now part of the dentistry curriculum.
Here is how the Mayor's office described Dr. Wright:
"Dr. Kenneth Wright has a long history of acting on his compassion for others. He is a professor at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at Western University and a community volunteer and fundraiser with many organizations including the McCormick Home, S.A.R.I, the Scatcherd School, and Community Living London. His dedication to others is well documented and well respected and his most innovative and impactful actions may be his creation of the Dental Outreach Community Services (DOCS).
Dr. Wright took an idea from his alumni newsletter from McGill and created a mobile dental unit that provides FREE oral care to those who cannot afford or access mainstream dental services. The program operates almost entirely on volunteer hours provided by dentists, hygienists, staff and students as well as donations from corporate sponsors and the assistance of other supporters. The program integrates community service and dental hygiene education. It provides care to those who would otherwise not have access to dentists. DOCS has been a resounding success. Dr. Wright has combined his community outreach and his profession to the benefit of all Londoners.
Dr. Kenneth Wright has been named to the Mayor's New Year's Honour List 2014 in the category of Humanitarian."
