Assistant Dean, Faculty Equity and Wellness - call for applications

The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, at Western University is seeking applications for the position of Assistant Dean, Faculty Equity and Wellness, to be effective February 1, 2014.
The Assistant Dean, Faculty Equity and Wellness will focus on the physical, psychological and professional well-being of faculty and support faculty to perform their academic roles effectively. This person will work collaboratively with the Office of Learner Equity and Wellness and will report to the Vice Dean, Hospital and Interfaculty Relations. The incumbent will be responsible for developing a comprehensive, proactive program to address wellness issues in faculty members effectively and liaise with Rehabilitation Services in Human Resources, the Equity and Human Rights Office and the Office of Faculty Relations at Western. She/he will meet with faculty members at their request and develop and maintain a resource network that can be accessed by faculty needing support, these resources will include counselling, medical, psychological and psychiatric services. The Assistant Dean, Faculty Equity and Wellness will effectively conduct workshops in collaboration with the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) office to mentor and promote faculty wellness.
Candidates for the Assistant Dean, Faculty Equity and Wellness position will be sensitive to the spectrum of challenges faced by faculty members including psychosocial and cultural issues. He/she is expected to have an understanding of, and model CanMEDS roles including physician Health. Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to collaborate, communicate, and facilitate in complex environments. Established leadership and team building capacities and a track record of sustained commitment are expected.
The successful candidate must already hold a full-time academic appointment at Western, and will require a time commitment of 1 day per week for a 3 year term, with the possibility of renewal.
The applicant should forward a letter of intent, current Curriculum Vitae and the names of three references to the attention of Dr. Margaret Steele, Vice Dean, Hospital and Interfaculty Relations via e-mail attachment to selection.committee@schulich.uwo.ca no later than December 6, 2013 by 5:00 p.m. Applicants will be vetted by an Advisory Committee, who will carry out interviews of selected applications, and make a recommendation for appointment to the Dean.
Positions are subject to budget approval. Applicants should have fluent written and oral communication skills in English.
