Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Smith served on numerous committees to further patient care, was an examiner in Internal Medicine and Diagnostic Radiology, and served as the president of the Medical Staff Association at University Hospital.
Dr. Smith will always be remembered "as a man of great compassion and insight." Beyond this, to all of those who had the privilege of practicing with him, or receiving a consult from him, Dr. Smith was always the "internist's internist". He was a tremendous teacher, a mentor to many, and a cherished colleague. He was an avid fly fisher and gardener - attributes that only further enhanced his standing as an incredibly well rounded physician. He will be truly missed by all of us.
