Congratulations Dr. Richard Rankin on receiving the Canadian Association of Radiologists (CAR) Gold Medal Award. This award represents the highest award that lies within the power of the Canadian Association of Radiologists to bestow to a CAR member. The award is typically given to only one nominee each year and is awarded by the CAR to an individual for distinguished and extraordinary service to the Canadian Association of Radiologists and the discipline of radiology; this year two awards were presented. Service to radiology can be teaching, basic research, clinical investigation or radiologic statesmanship. Research must be recognized for quality and consistency by publication in recognized professional journals. Service to the CAR can be outstanding contributions to the CAR, other medical organizations, or government agencies.
Dr. Richard Rankin was named as one of the two recipients of this most prestigious award.
Dr. Rankin graduated in 1974 from Edinburgh University, Edinburgh Scotland after attending St. Andrew's University in St. Andrew's, Scotland, UK. He has filled such roles as Co-Chief, LHSC & SJHC; Undergraduate Education Coordinator (Western University); Chair (Western University); Chief (LHSC); and Program Director. He has been involved in research and in supervising fellows, students and residents, and has been involved as a Peer Reviewer on innumerable journal review boards. Dr. Rankin has been involved with, and published, hundreds of articles, abstracts, book chapters, editorials and publications. He has been the Chair on the International Atomic Energy Agency and is President of the Canadian Radiological Foundation. Dr. Rankin is only the second faculty recipient to receive this award in the past 18 years (Dr. Hobbs was awarded in 1995).
Over the years, Dr. Richard Rankin has contributed as an expert, advisor, mentor, researcher and educator in the field of Medical Imaging. Last year, the Department and Divisional Chairs awarded Dr. Rankin the "Department of Diagnostic Radiology & Nuclear Medicine Award for Academic Excellence" in the areas of 'Healthcare Leadership' and 'Administration'.
