Dr. Doug Jones appointed vice dean, Basic Medical Sciences

I am pleased to announce that Dr. Doug Jones has been appointed as vice dean, Basic Medical Sciences, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University effective from February 1, 2013 to June 30, 2016.
Dr. Jones graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Science in Zoology in 1971 and Masters of Science in 1974 from the University of Alberta. He received his PhD in Medical Sciences in 1977, from the University of Calgary.
In 1980, he was recruited as assistant professor to the Departments of Medicine and Physiology, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University. Dr. Jones' previous administrative experience includes associate dean, Basic Medical Sciences Academic Affairs (2009-2013), chair, Western University Graduate Studies Internal Appraisal Committee (2000-2002), and chair, Department of Physiology and Pharmacology's Graduate Studies Committee (1998-2001).
Dr. Jones has trained more than 150 graduate, undergraduate research students and postdoctoral fellows and has more than 520 abstracts, book chapters and research publications. His research focuses on determining the physiology and pathophysiology of cardiovascular function. Dr. Jones' recent studies have focused on substrates associated with arrhythmia in atrial fibrillation, mechanisms of, and development of procedures and tools for minimally-invasive, robotically-assisted cardiac surgery, and neurophysiological regulatory mechanisms of cardiovascular control. Dr. Jones was the recipient of the Science Ambassador Award, Partners in Research, Ontario (2002) and the Visiting Research Fellowship, University of Melbourne, Australia (1994).
