Thursday, October 11, 2012
Stephen Ferguson, a scientist in the Molecular Brain Research Group at Robarts Research Institute extends his congratulations to one of his mentors Robert Lefkowitz for winning the 2012 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Lefkowitz and Brian Kobilka, both U-S scientists, were recognized for the discovery of G Protein Coupled Receptors (click here to watch video of the announcement) which also has a timely connection to a retreat next week hosted by Schulich Medicine & Dentistry and Robarts.
The 13th annual G Protein Coupled Receptor Retreat is being held from Wednesday to Friday at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel in London, with 150 experts from Canada and the U-S attending. One of Kobilka's most successful trainees Mark Von Zastrow will be speaking in the S.C. Ferguson Symposium on Tuesday as is Lou Luttrell one of the more illustrious graduates from the Lefkowitz lab.
