Chair/Chief, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology

Following the approval of the Hospital Boards' and the Provost, we are delighted to announce that Dr. Margaretha Rebel has been appointed as Chair/Chief of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, and its teaching hospitals, London Health Sciences Centre & St. Joseph's Health Care London effective February 1, 2012 to January 31, 2017.
Dr. Maggie Rebel initially developed an understanding of the health care field through education and experience as a registered nurse graduating in 1977 and subsequent qualification as a State Certified Midwife in England in 1979. Further education followed with undergraduate studies towards a Baccalaureate in Nursing at The University of Western Ontario and the completion of her MD in 1985 at McMaster University. Dr. Rebel's fellowship training in Obstetrics and Gynecology was completed in 1990 at The University of Western Ontario. She completed her Masters of Education in 1994 at the University of Toronto and subspecialty training in Pediatrics Gynecology and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility in 1999 at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Rebel has been involved with undergraduate medical education at the University of Western Ontario since her appointment to the faculty in 1991 including several curricular change initiatives. She has been the Medical Education Director at St. Joseph's Hospital, London, the Chair of Undergraduate Committee for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Program Director for the Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Fellowship/Residency. Most recently she was the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Medical Education at Schulich from 2004 to 2011.
Dr. Rebel's current focuses of practice are Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Pediatric Gynecology and Medical Education. She is also very active in Schulich's teaching programs, teaching in the Undergraduate and Postgraduate medical programs in Schulich. Dr. Rebel is a member of many National and Provincial Societies and has served on a number of other Schulich, Department and Hospital committees. She was the recipient of the Schulich Award of Excellence in Undergraduate Education in 2008 and was awarded the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry Douglas Bocking Award in 2010.
