Dr. Michael Rieder named to Student Affairs

Dr. Michael Rieder has been appointed as Acting Assistant Dean, Student Affairs for the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry effective July 1, 2011 to December 31, 2011. The Assistant Dean, Student Affairs provides leadership to the student affairs portfolio.
Dr. Rieder holds the CIHR-GSK Chair in Paediatric Clinical Pharmacology at The University of Western Ontario. He is also the Program Director of the Clinical Investigators Program at Schulich and is the Director of Paediatric Pharmacology at The University of Western Ontario and the Children's Hospital of Western Ontario.
Dr. Rieder attended medical school at the University of Saskatchewan. Following medical school he trained in Paediatrics at Wayne State University in the Children's Hospital of Michigan in Detroit. He then went on to train in Emergency Paediatrics and Paediatric Pharmacology at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto during which time he completed a Ph.D. in Biochemical Pharmacology. He joined Western in 1988 and is a Professor in the Department of Paediatrics with cross appointments in the Departments of Physiology & Pharmacology, Medicine and Anatomy & Cell Biology. He has won many awards for both educational and research achievements. In 2009 he was named as Faculty Scholar at The University of Western Ontario, a prestigious title that is awarded for 2 years to only two distinguished university professors at Schulich.
Dr. Rieder previously served as Acting Assistant Dean, Student Affairs at Schulich from January 2009 to September 2009 and brings a wealth of experience and counsel to this leadership role in Student Affairs.
