In Memoriam - Vivian Bocking

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Vivian Bocking (BA'82), well-known community leader, volunteer, philanthropist and wife of former Dean of Medicine, Dr. Douglas Bocking (MD'43).

Vivian was a busy mother of six children, including former Schulich faculty member and alumnus, Dr. Alan Bocking. Despite her busy family life, she also served on the Board and as President of both the London YM-YWCA and the Women's Christian Association. Vivian followed her six children in attending The University of Western Ontario, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 1982. In 2003, St. Joseph's Health Care Foundation named the Douglas and Vivian Bocking Chair in Fetal and Newborn Growth, in recognition of the Bockings' many contributions to medicine and quality of life. The Chair, currently held by Dr. Victor Han, focuses on the molecular and cellular processes of fetal body development including genetic abnormalities, uterine environment and maternal lifestyle.

Visitation will be held at the A. MILLARD GEORGE FUNERAL HOME, 60 Ridout Street South, London from 2 - 4 pm and 7 - 9 pm Thursday May 12, 2011. A memorial service conducted by Reverend Dr. Kate Crawford will be held at First-St. Andrew's United Church, 350 Queens Avenue at Waterloo Street, London on Friday, May 13th. at 11 am. Inurnment of cremated remains in Woodland Cemetery, London.
