Schulich in the news

Research papers by Steven Laviolette and Murray Huff published in the journals Neuroscience and Diabetes respectively, drew international attention for Schulich and Western this week.

Steven Laviolette of the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology explained how drugs like marijuana affect how the brain perceives the significance of emotional information, research that could also explain the suggested link between heavy marijuana use and schizophrenia. His work was carried in the Australian science magazine Cosmos, CBC radio, Time.ca, Globe and Mail, Times of India and the German science magazine Gehirn & Geist to name a few.

Murray Huff's research on Nobiletin, a flavonoid found in tangerines, and its ability to prevent obesity, Type 2 diabetes and atherosclerosis made headlines around the world including the Daily Mail, Daily Telegraph and Daily Mirror in the U.K., the French Tribune, the Chilean newspaper La Tercera, SWR German Public Radio, the Vancouver Sunand other Postmedia newspapers including the Montreal Gazette and the London Free Press. He was also On ANews and CBC Radio and will be on BBC radio on Tuesday, April 12 at 7:15 am our time. Huff is the Director of the Vascular Biology Research Group at Robarts Research institute.

There was a great story in the Windsor Starabout the technology used to connect medical classes in London and Windsor. The story featured Dr. Awuku, year one student Roman Shapiro and Dr. Sangeet Kathuria.

Dr. Michael Rieder and Phd candidate Baset Elzagallai will be on CBC National News on Saturday April 9^th 6:00 p.m. discussing the situation in which Libyans students studying in Canada find themselves. The Gadhafi government has withdrawn financial support for the students. The segment will also air on CBC Radio on the World this Weekend.
