Matthews to speak on poverty and health April 23

The Honourable Minister of Health and Long-Term Care and MPP for London North Centre, Deb Matthews, will speak Friday, April 23 at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry about health in relation to Ontario's Poverty Reduction Strategy and safe affordable housing.
Minister Matthews has been part of the Ontario Legislature since 2003 and supported the new Ontario Child Benefit. She has been involved in social assistance reform for a number of years, authoring a report, Review of Employment Assistance Programs in Ontario Works & Ontario Disability Support Program. She acted as Ontario's Minister of Children and Youth Services and Minister Responsible for Women's Issues until 2009. Her work on poverty includes chairing the Cabinet Committee on Poverty Reduction.She also introduced the Ontario's Poverty Reduction Strategy which aims to reduce the number of children living in poverty by 25 per cent over five years.
