Tuesday, November 17, 2009
Congratulations to Dr. Alp Sener, the 2009 Clinician Scientist Award winner for the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry.
Dr. Alp Sener was born in Turkey and moved to Canada at an early age. After growing up in Calgary, he moved to Texas to complete his undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin. Upon concluding his undergraduate studies, Alp returned to Calgary where he obtained PhD in renal physiology followed by his MD at the University of Calgary. From Calgary, Dr. Sener moved to London to compare his residency training in Urology at Western and then onto Baltimore where he finished a fellowship in kidney and pancreas transplantations at he University of Maryland Medical Centre.
Dr. Sener joined the Multi-Organ Transplant Services (MOTS) team in July 2009, as an Assistant Professor of Surgery with a cross-appointment into the Department of Microbiology & Immunology. Apart from a general urology practice with a focus on kidney and pancreas transplantation, his appointment as a Schulich Clinician Scientist will enable him to devote considerable time to continuing his research in the field of T-cell medicated graft injection and in developing methods of mitigating organ ischemia-reperfusion injury.
Please join us in congratulating Alp on his award and in welcoming the Sener family back to the City of London and into the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry.
