In memoriam -Dr. Lewis Stafford Carey

Dr. Lewis Stafford de Sausmarez Carey passed away at his workplace of almost 20 years, LHSC- University Hospital, London on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 in his 84th year. Beloved husband of the late Dr. Beverly (Baxter) Carey (2008). Born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, July 9, 1925 he attended boarding school in Duncan on Vancouver Island and completed his undergraduate degree at UBC. He met his lovely wife in medical school at Queens University and shortly thereafter, moved to Minnesota where he raised his family, studied and practiced radiology.
As chairman of radiology at The University of Western Ontario for 15 years, he was instrumental in organizing the first Canadian Telemedicine Project. His work proved to be the catalyst for the development of Satellite Health Services in Canada.
Dear father and father-in-law of Richard, Mark, John, Susan, David, Bonnie, Sandy, Alison, Janice and Angela. Opinionated grandfather (Papa Doc) of Kate, Lea, Phil, Jennifer, Michael, William, Little Serena. Predeceased by his sisters Rosalie Doig and Joan Donley.
A memorial service will be held at the Birr United Church (Highway #4 and Thirteen Mile Road) on Friday, November 13th at 1:30 PM with Rev. Bill McAuslan officiating. Interment Birr United Cemetery has taken place. Donations to Lower Thames Valley Conservation Foundation-Carey Carolinian Arboretum Project would be appreciated by the family.
