Dean Carol Herbert honoured as role model for women
Wednesday, November 4, 2009
Dr. Carol Herbert has been named the 2009 recipient of the Society for Executive Leadership in Academic Medcine (SELAM) International Award for Excellence. The award honours individuals who have served as role models and supporters of women in medicine, dentistry and the health professions.
Dr. Barbara Lent was involved in submitting the nomination of Dr. Herbert. "Several people contributed to the portfolio that was sent in to support her nomination for this award. Her many accomplishments and the very positive impact she has had on women at Schulich were delineated in the warm and enthusiastic letters of support written by junior and senior faculty (both clinicians and basic scientists) and medical students."
The award will be presented at the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) annual meeting on November 7 in Boston. A reception to honour Dr. Herbert at home is planned for November 25.
Affiliated with the AAMC, SELAM is committed to the advancement and promotion of women to executive positions in academic health professions through programs that enhance professional development and provide networking and mentoring opportunities.
