Associate Dean, Basic Medical Sciences Academic Affairs announced

We are pleased to announce Dr. Doug Jones as the Associate Dean, Basic Medical Sciences Academic Affairs for the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. His term commenced July 1, 2009 and will continue until June 30, 2012.
Dr. Jones joined the Faculty of Medicine in 1980 with a joint appointment in the Departments of Medicine (Cardiology) and Physiology at the University of Western Ontario. Presently Dr. Jones is a Professor in the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry with appointments in Medicine, Physiology & Pharmacology and with the Graduate Program in Neuroscience. He is a Scientist in the Heart & Circulation Group, and the Canadian Surgical Technologies and Advanced Robotics (CSTAR), the Lawson Health Research Institute and an Associate Scientist in the Imaging Group at the Robarts Research Institute.
Dr. Jones has more then 40 years of research experience in cardiovascular disease; improving diagnostic procedures, developing bioelectrical devices and developing novel therapeutic regimes. His current research is on heart arrhythmia as well as developing procedures for minimally-invasive, robotic-assisted surgery on the beating heart. Dr. Jones has more then 475 peer reviewed manuscripts, book chapters, technical reports and abstracts from his work. He has been a Faculty Advisor and supervisor to more then 130 graduate and undergraduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
As the Associate Dean of Basic Medical Sciences Academic Affairs, Dr. Jones will serve as a spokesperson for the Basic Medical Sciences Chair Group, will oversee the Basic Medical Sciences Undergraduate Education Program, and act as a designate for the Dean in numerous faculty activities, as well as liaison with the Faculty of Science.
