Acting Assistant Dean named for Rural and Regional Medicine

Dean Herbert is pleased to announce that Dr. Shamim Tejpar will serve as Acting Dean of Rural and Regional Medicine for the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, effective January 15, 2009 until June 30, 2009. Dr. William Avison recognized by American Sociological Association

Dr. William (Bill) Avison has been named the 2009 recipient of the Leonard I. Pearlin Award for Distinguished Contributions to the Sociological Study of Mental Health from the American Sociological Association. He will receive the award and present the Pearlin Award paper at the ASA Annual Meeting in San Francisco.

This grant is to support the creation, promotion, and evaluation of, and/or research on, new and innovative methods of faculty development to foster the training of quality teachers.

- RCPSC/AMS CanMEDS Research and Development Grant
This grant is to support research, development, and/or implementation of projects to enhance specialty education in the promotion of the key roles for specialists as defined by CanMeds.

Inspire the next generation: Discovery Day presenters and panelists needed

The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame's annual Discovery Day in Health Sciences takes place on Friday, May 8. Faculty, students and trainees are needed to present workshops on health research or careers to regional high school students interested in health sciences. More than 500 students attended last year's Discovery Day at Western and Fanshawe College. Buses are provided to shuttle students to off-campus locations and research labs. February 10 - Premier Dalton McGuity to Open Wing at Robarts

Time: 3:00 pm
Place: The first floor Atrium at Robarts Research Institute
The Ontario Government invested $12 million in Western/Robarts to renovate the A.M. Cuddy Wing at Robarts and bring two new state-of-the art brain imaging MRIs to the Institute.
