Acting Assistant Deans named for Admissions & Student Affairs
Dean Herbert is pleased to announce that Dr. Michael Rieder will serve as Acting Assistant Dean of Student Affairs for the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, effective January 1, 2009 until August 31, 2009. Dr. Robert Hammond will serve as Acting Assistant Dean of Admissions for the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, effective January 1, 2009 until August 31, 2009. Dr. Carol Herbert appointed Medical Hall of Fame Board Chair
Congratulations to Dr. Herbert who has been named Chair of the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame board of directors. With nine and a half years of experience on the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame board, Dr. Herbert leads a team of 16 prominent health and business professionals from across Canada - a group dedicated to future medical excellence through the celebration of Canada's medical heroes. Fellowship in Teaching Innovation Award calls for 2009 Applications
The purpose of the $10,000 fellowship in Teaching Innovation award is to encourage full-time faculty members to pursue teaching innovations at The University of Western Ontario.

Schulich grant competitions for spring 2009:
The Faculty Development Mini Fellowship Fund, and the Faculty Support for Research in Education Fund (FSRE).
Faculty Development Mini Fellowships are career development grants of up to $ 5,000 each ad are designed so faculty members can take advantage of professional development opportunities to acquire new knowledge and skills. The FSRE grants are intended to enable research projects relevant to the educational goals of the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, and grants will range up to a maximum of $ 12, 500. For guidelines and applications www.schulich.uwo.ca/education/erru/facdev/FSRE_guideline.pdf

Thank you from United Way
Schulich/Robarts United Way Campaign reaches 98% of its goal of $ 95,000, raising $ 93,007 for the United Way of London & Middlesex. We also moved closer to our "Schulich/Robarts Shoots for 10% goal, with 151 making pledges through our campaign. Western raised a record-breaking total of $534,008 - topping last year's contribution of $519,000. Thank you all again! Your generosity will make a difference.

Four Wednesday evenings of Queer/LGBT-related films and informal discussion. The UWO OpenMeds club invites students, staff, and faculty of the Schulich School to our first-ever Queer Film Series. We will be exploring a range of issues related to LGBT life and love through film over the next four weeks. ALL are welcome, so please join us for some excellent film and informal discussion!
