Dr. Paul Polak to receive honorary degree

Dr. Paul Polak, MD'58 is one of ten distinguished individuals who will receive honorary degrees beginning Monday, June 9 when The University of Western Ontario hosts its 291st Convocation.

Dr. Polak will receive the degree of Doctor of Science, honoris causa (D.Sc.) on June 9, at 3:30 p.m. He's the founder of the non-profit organization International Development Enterprises (IDE) which has been helping farmers in developing countries escape poverty through various income-earning ventures. In 2006, IDE received a $13.4 million grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to develop and promote low-cost irrigation products for rural farmers in Ethiopia, Nepal, Zambia and Myanmar.
