We are pleased to announce our speakers:

Tara Mantler: "the iHEAL App"

  • Professor Tara Mantler's program of research focuses on women’s health wherein she seeks to explore, understand, and test interventions to improve the health of women. Her research examines women’s health with an emphasis on the intersection with intimate partner violence, rurality, and mothering. As an equity researcher her methods are grounded in an intersectional lens, focusing on power dynamics and how the various roles women possess in their lives impact approaches to health and interactions with health systems/services. Within her program of research, her interests fall into two areas: 1) Intimate Partner Violence (IPV)- Examining the impact of intimate partner violence on women’s health; and 2) Maternal/Child Health- Examining factors that influence maternal decision making and subsequently maternal/child health.

Dr. Tracy Vaillancourt: "Social Media and Youth Mental Health:

Implications for Policy and Advocacy"

  • Dr. Tracy Vaillancourt is a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in School-Based Mental Health and Violence Prevention at the University of Ottawa where she is cross-appointed as a full professor in Counselling Psychology, Faculty of Education and the School of Psychology, Faculty of Social Sciences. Dr. Vaillancourt is also a member of the Brain and Mind Institute, Faculty of Medicine and the Centre for Health Law, Policy, and Ethics, Faculty of Law, uOttawa. She is the past president of the International Society for Research on Aggression, a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, and the Chief Editor, Frontiers in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry – Child Mental Health and Interventions.

Margot Denomme: "Raising Awareness Against Digital Dangers"

  • Margot Denommé JD is a former Crown Attorney, mother, author, and digital safety advocate with over 26 years in criminal law. She has seen firsthand how poor choices and social media misuse can lead youth into the criminal justice system and understands the importance of strong mental health and resilience in protecting kids. Concerned about the impact of smartphones, she wrote The Family Smartphone Guide, with expert contributions from Dr. Michelle Ponti, to help families navigate the physical, mental, and legal risks of smartphone use. Through RAADD (Raising Awareness Against Digital Dangers), she equips parents, educators, and youth with practical tools for safer digital habits. Featured on CBC, CTV, and Global News, Margot is a leading voice for responsible smartphone use and child protection.

Jasmine Zhang: "Child and Youth Well-Being in the Digital World:

Understanding Research and Clinical Priorities"

  • Jasmine is a third-year Ph.D. student in Clinical Psychology at the University of Waterloo. Her research examines the impacts of digital media use on the well-being of children, youth, and caregivers through a family-wide lens. She is also interested in developing technology-based interventions for mental health. In 2024, Jasmine joined the inaugural cohort of Impact Fellows at the Children and Screens Institute of Digital Media and Child Development. Jasmine has completed clinical training in providing psychoeducational assessment and intervention services in school, community, and health settings. Prior to beginning her doctoral studies, she received her Bachelor of Science (Honours Psychology, Neuroscience and Behaviour) from McMaster University in 2020 and her Master of Arts (Clinical Psychology) from the University of Waterloo in 2022.

Justin Temple: "Social Media: A Balanced Approach"

  • Justin Temple is a Recreation Therapist from London, Ontario. Justin has worked at CPRI in this role since 2007, working with both inpatient and outpatient clients within the mental health and dual diagnosis departments. He is a graduate of Western University, Brock University, as well as Fanshawe College. He believes in recreation and leisure as being a vital component of a balanced and healthy lifestyle. His goal is to educate youth and their families around the mental health benefits associated with limited screen use and enhanced outdoor physical activity. He is the father to an 11 year old boy and well versed in the challenges that are associated with screen time.
