Telepsychiatry- Tele-Mental Health Services

Using videoconferencing, Tele-Mental Health (TMH) Service offers access to mental health consultations for children and youth up to 18 years of age, living in rural, remote, and as well in indigenous communities. TMH consultations are delivered through three “Hubs” across the province of Ontario including Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto; Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) in Ottawa and the Western Hub, Vanier Children’s Mental Wellness, London Ontario.

Western Hub is located at the Vanier Children’s Mental Wellness, 871 Trafalgar Street London, ON N5Z and operates in a collaborative partnership with Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, Western University, London Health Sciences Centre.

Using a consultation model of care, child and adolescent psychiatrists at Western Hub provides Clinical Consultations, Professional to Professional Consultations and Program Consultations (regarding team/program / systemic issues) utilizing Videoconferencing through Ontario Tele-medicine Network (OTN) Service.

Western Hub also provides access to educational opportunities to child and youth care providers in rural and indigenous communities to enhance capacity to deliver mental health service to young people in these communities.

Western Hub does not provide Emergency Psychiatric Assessments, Court Order Assessments, and Parent Capacity Assessments.

Publicly funded professionals working with children and youths up to 18 years of age can make referrals TMH consultation service, through six Service Coordination Agencies listed below. 

  • Southwest Ontario Aboriginal Health Access Centre in Chippewas of the Thames First Nation/Muncey.
  • Woodview Mental Health and Autism Services in Burlington.
  • Hands TheFamilyHealthNetwork.ca in North Bay, Parry Sound.
  • Algoma Family Services (CAMH-Sault Ste Marie – Algoma Branch).
  • Dilico Anishinabek Family Care in Fort William First Nation.
  • Weechi-it-te-win Family Services in Fort Frances.

The Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, Western University has included Tele-Mental Health sites in their Journal Club and Resident Rounds via video conferencing.

Working in collaboration with Department of Psychiatry, Division of Child and Psychiatry, Western Hub offers training opportunities for Psychiatry Residents to develop knowledge, skills, and experience to address mental health care needs of children and youth living in the rural and indigenous communities.
