Special Permissions / Pre-Requisites: All requests for special permission / waiving of pre-requisities for any of the pathology courses should be sent directly to Dr. Patti Kiser (pkiser@uwo.ca). In your request, please mention your program, what your request is and why you are making the special request. You should also send your Western Student number and an unofficial copy of your transcript.
Undergraduate BMSc Program
An Honours Specialization in Pathology, offered by the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, leads to a BMSc degree. Students can take a number of Pathology courses including Pathology 3500 (Introduction to Human Pathology), Pathology 3700F/G (Biomedical/Pathology Research), Pathology 4200A (Current Concepts in the Pathogenesis of Human Diseases), Pathology 4400B (Environmental Pathology), and Pathology 4500B (Introduction to Forensic Sciences). Students in the Honours Specialization also undertake a thesis-based research project (Pathology 4980E) in their 4th year under the supervision of a faculty member of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Course materials, class exercises, etc., for all courses can be accessed and viewed through WebCT-OWL.
A Major in Pathology is also offered and can be completed only in combination with another Major (double Majors) in a Bachelor of Medical Sciences (BMSc) degree.
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and offers an Honours specialization Medical Bioinformatics.
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine has introduced a new Honours Specialization module in One Health that will lead to graduation with a Bachelor of Medical Sciences (BMSc) degree.
The Honours Specialization and Major in Pathology may only be completed within the BMSc Program. Students beginning their studies at the University in 2013 will not register in modules leading to a BMSc degree until they are admitted to Year 3 of the BMSc Program.
