Learning objectives:
- Participants will learn about the origins and evolution of a newly discovered antiviral protein called HERC5
- Participants will gain a basic understanding of how HIV and Ebola virus replicate and cause disease, and the molecular mechanisms by which HERC5 blocks their replication
- Participants will learn about the evolutionary arms race occurring between HERC5 and HIV/Ebola virus, and its implications for disease progression and treatment
