Industry Collaborations
The ImPaKT Facility is the site of critical research initiatives being undertaken by the Western COVID-19 research team. The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry and teams across Western University are mobilizing the capabilities and tools found within ImPaKT to partner with fellow researchers and potential corporate partners to help in the fight against the novel Coronavirus.
Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, ImPaKT has embarked on several projects with a wide variety of industry partners, ranging from pharmaceutical companies to OEMs to home goods producers. Below are high-level descriptions of some of the Facility’s ongoing SARS-CoV-2 industry projects:
- Experimenting with the efficacy of ozonation in reducing/eliminating viral and bacterial activity from common materials, surfaces, and PPE.
- Testing the anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties of metal and mineral compounds, and their potential commercial applications.
- Animal testing of potential SARS-CoV-2 therapeutics.
- Anti-viral and anti-bacterial activity testing of common household and workplace surfaces, as well as protective coatings (e.g. surface laminates that make commonly used surfaces inhospitable to virus and bacteria).
- Aerosolization of SARS-CoV-2 via a cough chamber, as a form of realistic application of virus to surfaces and animals.
- Efficacy testing of innovative personal protective equipment against SARS-CoV-2.
How can we help?
