Get to know your Graduate Students Council
Welcome to graduate school, welcome back to graduate school, and hello again to those of you who have been working away in the labs all summer.
I would like to introduce myself and the Schulich Medicine & Dentistry Graduate Students Council. The Council is made up of graduate trainees in each of the MSc and PhD programs, and we work to make life a little better for each of you.
Knowing your department representative will be useful, so check out the website for the name of your representative and his or her contact information. We are all approachable people, so feel free to say hello and talk to us about any questions or concerns you have with anything that is going on. If we don’t know the answer, we will point you in the direction of someone who does.
The Council represents a common space for all Schulich Medicine & Dentistry trainees, and works as a voice to help mediate discussion between departments and between trainees and administration. In addition to this, we hope to continue to focus our attention on making a unified community where everyone is welcome.
Throughout these fall months, we will be starting a new initiative to bridge the gap between graduate trainees and medical students at the School. This initiative will consist of a series of seminars on selected topics in medicine relevant to clinicians and researchers. Every topic will be covered by a medical student and a graduate trainee, and at the end, there will be an informal discussion on the presented topics. The first seminar will take place on October 6 from 5:45 - 7:00 p.m. If you are interested in participating, contact cprseminarseries@gmail.com.
We will also be holding our annual fall charity trivia night fundraiser at the end of October in conjunction with our friends at Strong Bones, Strong Minds, Strong Muscles, as well as an open mic night in November. Dust off that instrument and practise those talents — there will be more information to come.
If you have any ideas about what you would like to see or do in the winter term, tell us about it and we will do everything in our power to make it happen. Also, if you are interested in getting involved on the Council, contact me at amoszczy@uwo.ca.
On behalf of the Council, we are looking forward to an amazing year together and we hope you are too!
Until next month,
