Epidemiology and Biostatistics
Congratulations Siobhan Churchill, MSc Candidate, for winning the 2017 Carol Buck Graduate Scholarship. Churchill’s thesis explores the barriers that women with HIV face in disclosing their HIV status, and how experiences of abuse during childhood may impact these barriers to disclosure. She is supervised by Dr. Greta Bauer.
Congratulations to Melissa Majoni, MSc Candidate, supervised by Dr. Neville Suskin and Dr. Saverio Stranges, on having her paper, "Does being a retired or employed caregiver affect the association between behaviours in Alzheimer’s disease and caregivers’ health-related quality-of-life?" published in BMC Research Notes.

Congratulations to Sharifa Nasreen, PhD Candidate, and Ramanpreet Brar, MSc Candidate, both supervised by Dr. Igor Karp, on the publication of their paper, “Are indigenous determinants of health associated with self-reported health professional-diagnosed anxiety disorders among Canadian First Nations adults?: findings from the 2012 Aboriginal Peoples Survey” in the Community Mental Health Journal.
Congratulations to Klajdi Puka, MSc Candidate, supervised by Dr. Kathy Speechley, on the publication of "Health-related quality of life in mothers of children with epilepsy: 10 years after diagnosis" in Quality of Life Research.
Collaborative Training Program in Musculoskeletal Health Research
Congratulations to CMHR's newest PI’s, who are also postdoctoral scholars from the program, who developed, wrote and were successful in getting a CIHR planning grant for a Multidisciplinary Musculoskeletal health forum for Canadian trainees.
This successful grant and resulting meeting is the outcome of a collaborative application put together by three postdoctoral fellows. It was spearheaded by PI Amanda Lorbergs, and co-applicants were Anusha Ratneswaran and Yara Hosein.
The CIHR grant will support a one day trainee-led Multidisciplinary Meeting for Canadian Trainees in Musculoskeletal Health Research held at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry on May 10, 2018. Numerous trainees in the CMHR program will contribute to its planning and implementation. It will immediately precede the Canadian Bone and Joint Conference (May 11-12) and the Canadian Rehab Network meeting (May 13).

Congratulations to Georgia Nikoloudaki, PhD Candidate, supervised by Dr. Douglas W. Hamilton, on receiving a travel award from CADR_NCOHR (Canadian Association of Dental Research-Network for Canadian Oral Health Research) to present her research this March 2018 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
Congratulations to PhD Candidate Saumik Biswas for having the book chapter "Pathogenetic Mechanisms in Diabetic Retinopathy: From Molecules to Cells to Tissues" published in Mechanisms of Vascular Defects in Diabetes Mellitus. In addition to the book chapter, Saumik was also awarded an IRF Studentship 2017-2018 from the Lawson Health Research Institute for the project: MALAT1: An epigenetic regulator of inflammation in diabetic retinopathy.
