Dr. Tom Freeman has been a full-time faculty member in the Department of Family Medicine, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, at Western University since 1989 and was appointed Professor Emeritus May 2019. He remains active as a Research Adjunct Professor at the Centre for Studies in Family Medicine. He is the past Chair of the Department of Family Medicine at Western and past City-Wide Chief, Department of Family Medicine, London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph’s Health Care, London. He was a Visiting Scholar at the Robert Graham Center for Policy Studies in Family Medicine and Primary Care in Washington D.C. He practiced comprehensive family medicine for 40 years. Tom co-teaches the Foundations in Family Medicine course in the graduate programme. He was instrumental in establishing the Thames Valley Family Health Team, one of the largest such teams in the province, serving nearly 200,000 patients in the region. His current research interests are the nature and outcome of common symptoms in family practice, vaccine data quality and virtual care. He has published in Canadian Medical Association Journal, Canadian Family Physician, and Family Practice and has received funding from CIHR, Physicians’ Services Incorporated Foundation, the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and Health Canada. He is a co-author on Patient-Centered Medicine: Transforming the Clinical Method and McWhinney’s Textbook of Family Medicine.
