Course Selection & Registration
The following information will assist you with course selection and registration for the Fall 2024 term. Course registration is done termly, starting one month ahead of each term’s start date.
Course Selection:
Refer to the Year 1 Course Requirements by Degree chart below to determine which ‘required’ courses you must register for in the 2024-25 academic year. All required courses should be completed within the first 3 terms of the program*.
Graduate students do not have a termly minimum/maximum course load, but students should ensure that they do not to overload their course schedule in a given term. Refer to the Anticipated Course Offerings: 2024-2025 Academic Year for a list of courses that are anticipated to be offered this academic year.
Students often aim to complete all course requirements in their first 2-3 terms of registration (Fall 2024, Winter 2025 and Summer 2025). However, elective courses may also be completed in terms 4-5. Student should plan their schedule for coursework completion with the Supervisor, so their course load can be best tailored to align with the timing of their thesis work.
*Excluding the required PhD Year 2 courses, which are completed in terms 4 & 5 by PhD students (Biostats 9681Q & Epi 9690S).
Elective Course Credits:
Students should discuss with their Supervisor(s) which elective courses they will complete throughout their degree program. Supervisors will suggest electives that are relevant for their student’s thesis research. Elective courses outside of the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics may be taken only if recommended and approved by the Supervisor(s) and Graduate Chair.

- This web page shows the course credit requirements for graduate students, based on degree (MSc/PhD) and Field of Study (Epidemiology/Biostatistics). Please refer here when planning out your courses.
- The courses that will be offered for Fall 2023 are posted here. This web page is updated before the start of each term. This web page also includes the schedules from the previous Winter and Summer terms.
Registering for Courses:
Students may register for Fall term courses throughout the month of August. The course add/drop period runs for the first 2 weeks of September (approximate), for students adjust their course selections.
