Short Biography:

Dr. Saverio Stranges is currently Professor and Chair of the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics within the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University in Canada. Additionally, he holds cross-appointments as Professor in the Departments of Family Medicine and Medicine. At Western University, he also holds the position of Director of the Africa Institute.

Dr. Stranges obtained his medical degree with honors in 1996 and completed specialty training in Preventive and Public Health Medicine in 2000 at the University of Naples Federico II in Italy. He subsequently fulfilled the requirements for a PhD in Epidemiology and Environmental Health from the Department of Epidemiology & Environmental Health at the State University of New York at Buffalo in 2004

Beginning his academic career as an Assistant Professor at SUNY Buffalo in 2005, Dr. Stranges later served as Associate Clinical Professor of Cardiovascular Epidemiology in the Division of Health Sciences at the University of Warwick in the UK. Prior to his tenure at Western University, he held the role of Scientific Director of the Department of Population Health at the Luxembourg Institute of Health.

Dr. Stranges is recognized as a medical doctor, public health specialist, and chronic disease epidemiologist. His research is focused on Global Health, chronic disease epidemiology, and aging across the life-course. He investigates the impact of lifestyle, behavioral, and psychosocial factors such as dietary patterns, sleep behaviors, and social determinants of health. Throughout his career, Dr. Stranges has contributed to numerous international epidemiological projects, clinical trials, secondary data analyses, and systematic reviews. He has authored over 300 scientific publications including articles, reviews, and book chapters, and holds an H-index of 80.

His research has received funding from prestigious international agencies including the National Institute for Health Research in the UK and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. Recently elected as President of the Chronic Disease Section for the European Public Health Association, Dr. Stranges also serves as an Associate Editor for several scientific journals in the field of Public Health.
