Michael Thwaites
Michael Thwaites completed his undergraduate education at the University of Western Ontario with an Honours BSc in Genetics. He is currently working on his PhD in the department of Biochemistry under the supervision of Dr. Fred Dick. His research aims to understand a novel, non-transcriptional, pathway through which the retinoblastoma gene product (pRB) regulates the cell cycle, and what influence this pathway has on tumor suppression and carcinogenesis. He focuses on understanding the different mechanisms through which pRB can affect cell cycle control through the abrogation of individual binding interactions of pRB. Secondly, he is studying the relevance of these pathways in the human disease through the use of animal models and human cancer cell lines.
