Dr. Sonja Payne

Biography

Dr. Sonja Payne was awarded her medical degree from Western University in 2004. She subsequently relocated to the United Kingdom where she successfully completed a Master’s of Science degree in Evidence-Based Practice from York University. Dr. Payne pursued her postgraduate anesthetic medical training in Bristol, UK where she became a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists in 2012. She subsequently completed clinical fellowships in Transplant Anesthesia at the London Health Sciences Centre, Canada and Neuroanesthesia at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, London, UK.

During her career, Dr. Payne has demonstrated her enthusiasm for teaching. She successfully developed and directed a simulation program for novice anesthetists in the UK. Dr. Payne has also codeveloped and delivered a novel point-of-care multidisiplinary teaching strategy which was a finalist at both the Health Service Journal Awards (2017) and the British Medical Journal Awards (2018).

Dr. Payne co-authored the anesthetic textbook, Graphic Anaesthesia, which has received positive reviews in multiple peer-reviewed journals.
