Dr. Richard Cherry appointed as Associate Dean, Continuing Professional Development

Dr. Richard Cherry has been appointed as Associate Dean, Continuing Professional Development, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University effective from July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2019.
Dr. Cherry completed his medical degree in 1993 and his residency training in Anesthesia at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry, Western University. He also completed an Anesthesia Informatics Fellowship at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry in 1999.
In 2000, Dr. Cherry joined the Department of Anesthesia & Perioperative Medicine, Schulich Medicine & Dentistry as an Assistant Professor and became an Associate Professor in 2007. He is the Founder and Director of the Anesthesia and Critical Care Teaching Through Simulation (ACCTTS) (2006 - present). Dr. Cherry has served on the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Anesthesia Examination Board (2006 – 2014) where he helped to introduce simulation based technologies to the national high stakes examination. He is the incoming Royal College Chair of the Canadian Simulation Summit (2015).
Dr. Cherry’s teaching and research interests lie in the use of simulation techniques for health professions education with a focus on theatre based simulation, debriefing and crisis management.
Dr. Cherry is a recipient of the Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Medicine Awards: Fellow Teacher of the Year, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry (2011); Resident Teacher of the Year, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry (2005 and 2009), and the Undergraduate Teacher of the Year, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry (2003 and 2008).
Dr. Cherry is currently the director of the Department's ACCTTS Program (Anesthesia and Critical Care Teaching Through Simulation).
