COVID-19 Information for Residency Programs - Week of May 11, 2021
Dear Program Directors and Program Administrators,
This is just a short update for the MCC Part II examination and COVID vaccinations.
- COVID vaccination scheduling for our incoming residents and fellows:
Information has been provided to our incoming residents and fellows (most of whom will have received at least one dose, but may require a second dose), and I have attached it here as well in case you are approached with questions. Learn more. - COVID second dose: There is available supply to begin to allow a shorter time interval between first and second doses for essential health-care workers. The information for scheduling (phone appointment) and guidance for who can qualify has been previously circulated, and is attached. I have reached out to MLHU and Dr. Summers, and there is no provision or ability to selectively prioritize residents (for example those who may be leaving the area and have only had their first dose). The guidance comes from the Ministry of Health. Learn more.
- Medical Council of Canada Part II Examination:
The MCC Part II in virtual format begins next week with 20 examination dates scheduled between May 18th and June 20th. The intent is to provide this MCC Part II examination during this time frame for ~ 2000 learners. MCC is hopeful that the backlog of ~ 6000 learners will be cleared by early 2022 using this format.
In Ontario the MCC Exemption has allowed full credentialling for those who have been certified by the RCPSC or CFPC without access to the examination, or were eligible for the MCC Part II and within 2 years of training completion. Learn more.
Thank you again for your work, your care, and your patience in these ever changing and challenging times,
Lois and your PGME Team
