COVID-19 Information for Residency Programs - Week of April 27
Electives
PGME Deans met this week and agreed to begin accepting and scheduling electives between Universities as of July 1, 2020. As of July 1, electives at other sites and centres outside of Schulich Medicine & Dentistry can resume. This is predicated on the following requirements:
- The host university/site agrees to accept the resident.
- The home university allows the resident to travel.
- There is capacity and clinical learning opportunities at the host university/site, including adequate PPE as required by the host site.
- Self-isolation may be required by the host university/hospital – this would have to be taken into consideration in arranging the elective.
- Electives that are scheduled for July onwards should be considered provisional at this time – in case the pandemic environment changes, or requirements for the elective cannot be met.
CaRMS examination timelines
- MSM (Medicine Subspecialty Match), PSM (Pediatric Subspecialty Match), ES (Enhanced Skills) – at this point timelines will be unchanged.
- PGY1 match and second iteration – AFMC CaRMS are reviewing possible timelines, and meeting Friday, April 24. A survey has been sent out to Program Directors re: minimal times required for file review etc.
