Schulich appoints new Associate Dean, Postgraduate Medical Education

Dr. Chris Watling has been appointed as the Associate Dean, Postgraduate Medical Education for the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, effective October 1, 2010 to June 30, 2015.

The Associate Dean, Postgraduate Medical Education is the senior faculty officer responsible for the overall conduct and supervision of Postgraduate Medical Education within the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. Dr. Watling will provide leadership in all matters of postgraduate medical education in order to maintain the accreditation standards defined by the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada and the College of Family Physicians of Canada, as well as strive for excellence in all aspects of postgraduate medical education.

Dr. Watling received his MD cum laude from Dalhousie University in 1990 before completing his residency training in neurology at The University of Western Ontario in 1995. After completing a year-long fellowship in pain and symptom management at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Centre, he took up a general community practice in Sudbury, Ontario from 1996-2000. When working with residents in his own practice, Dr. Watling discovered a love for teaching, and returned to London, Ontario with his family in 2000 to join the Schulich Medicine & Dentistry as an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Clinical Neurological Sciences and Oncology. Since then, Dr. Watling has taken up the role of Program Director for Neurology in 2004, become an Associate Professor, and continued on his path to becoming a scholar in education by completing a Masters in Medical Education in 2010 from the University of Dundee and has recently begun a PhD in the School of Health Professions Education through Maastricht University. Dr. Watling brings expertise in medical education and a passion for medical education research to the role of Associate Dean.
