Workshop wrap-up
Thanks to Dr. Jerry Tan and his team of research associates for hosting a qualitative research workshop for medical students and residents. It was an enlightening workshop.
The two-hour session focused on psychosocial research, which addresses medicine from a particular viewpoint that adds a breadth of knowledge to the medicine. During the workshop, learners focused on how qualitative methodologies approach medical issues in an innovative way using recently-published data. Four areas were covered: introduction to qualitative methods vs qualitative methodology; types of qualitative methods that may be useful to medical professionals; qualitative coding; and ways that qualitative methods lead to patient-centred research – which aids patient-centred care.
